For children who like the puzzley platformers of the Lego games, the Ratchet & Clank series and the TV tie-in Ben 10 titles, Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom is sure to be another hit. In the fictitious world of the Invizimals, a group of powerful hybrid animals from an alternate dimension, something is amiss - hostile steel creatures have started appearing, causing all sorts of chaos. As part of some organisation that researches these Invizimals, it's up to teen Hiro to travel into the parallel dimension and put things right again, in a game that's less about story and more about beating up bag guys, exploring levels and solving simple puzzles.
Each stage takes Hiro on a running, jumping and fighting journey through forests, ancient ruins and rivers, meeting up with several unique Invizimals along the way. Each encounter ends in Hiro gaining a new transformation, and with it, new abilities - a jaguar-like creature who can clamber up vine-covered walls, a 'tigershark' with a talent for swimming underwater and a minotaur with the ability to smash through fragile walls to name but a few. Puzzles mostly revolve around using the correct character in the correct situation, although the game will automatically switch you to the right one anyway.
Combined with a low difficulty level and plenty of fully voiced hints along the way, Invizimals is pretty well suited to a younger audience.
As a children's game, Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom is thoroughly family friendly, with no swearing, sex or gore to speak of. There is combat, in which the player beats up robotic creatures, amid explosions - but defeated enemies simply fade away, with no blood, guts or gore to speak of.
