A World of Keflings Gets Updated

Free Avatar Famestar update includes a whole new world

A World of Keflings Gets Updated
17th August, 2012 By Sarah Morris

A few weeks ago, Microsoft soft-launched a new reward scheme known as Avatar Famestar. Essentially adding endless replayability to each of the supported games (of which there are only three), the idea here is simple, yet brilliant. After downloading a quick auto update from Xbox Live, each game will be regularly updated with a myriad of challenges to complete, from winning three hands in a row online in Full House Poker or collecting a bonus icon in the castle-smashing Kinect title Wreckateer. For every one of these challenges you complete, you earn Fame points, which contribute to your overall Fame level, eventually taking you up through five different levels of celebrity status, unlocking new costumes for your avatar or bonuses to make the game easier as you go. It's a clever way to breathe new life into old titles at least, and is likely to become some achievement hunters' next favourite thing.

The 'World' consists of three different kingdoms - ice, desert and forest, each with their own unique characters and buildings.

So, it was with a giddy squee that we found out that the Famestar update is now available for A World of Keflings, giving us a perfect excuse to jump back in - and, unfortunately for the rest of our social life, no reason to stop. With a more relaxing pace, A World of Keflings is the perfect antidote to the fast paced shooters and realistic racing games that tend to be the Xbox 360's staple. With both same-console and online co-op play for two players, you and a friend can work together to help create the perfect kingdom for the massively-chinned people known as the Keflings. Playing as a giant avatar amongst the little people, it's up to you to wander the land collecting resources, which can then be turned into the building blocks of the various structures around town. Building new buildings in turn lets you create fancier items, which can be used to create even fancier buildings, and help the Keflings achieve their dream of living in an amazing town. With a whole host of colourful characters, moves like Jagger and a soundtrack you'll be humming for a week, A World of Keflings is one of the Everybody Plays favourites.

Yarrrr!!!

But while other games included in the promotion have been updated with a cursory list of Famestar challenges in the menu, the people behind A World of Keflings seem to have taken things a whole lot further by creating an entirely new kingdom to play through. Here you can build Kefling-sized ships to sail across the seas and waterways that litter the land, as well as meeting with the new Rockstar Kefling who'll set you a new weekly challenge to complete for an entire year. Each quest you complete not only adds to your Avatar Famestar levels, but also unlocks a new blueprint, letting you build one of 50+ ships for your Kefling fleet.

On top of the weekly quests, you can also earn Fame by completing a whole slew of other challenges, such as bouncing a Kefling through a string of 30 cannons, constructing certain numbers of buildings and collecting resources. Some of the challenges will need to be completed while playing the main game, but the majority can be done in any of the game's kingdoms, whether you're playing in the new Rockstar Weekly Challenge game, hanging out with aliens in the It Came From Outer Space add-on, or chilling in the soon-to-be-released Sugar, Spice and Not So Nice candy-themed land.

As mentioned above, the update is available now, and is entirely free to download, so there's literally nothing to lose! And if you haven't already bought A World of Keflings, we'd seriously advise thinking about it. It's 800 points, and amazing. Go on. You won't be disappointed.
