Ubisoft's dancing game goes from strength to strength

Recommended for ages 7 and up
Just Dance 3 is rated at a 3+ by PEGI – like a U rated film, it's suitable for all ages and features no sexual references, swearing or gore. Perhaps the only questionable thing your kids may come across are your dance moves.
Just Dance 3 is the latest instalment in the Just Dance dancing game franchise. It's a doddle to pick up and play, as all you need to do is hold onto a Wii Remote and copy the on-screen stick men's dance moves to gain points. With a whole host of catchy songs both new and old, there's bound to be something to persuade them to get up off the sofa and dancing around like there's no tomorrow.

With it's simple premise and controls – when not wanging the Wii Remote around, the menu's are navigated with simple pointing and button pressing – Just Dance 3 is a good game for kids and adults alike. What may cause a bit of frustration and confusion is the rate at which the moves scroll, and deciphering what the picture wants you to do before it's gone past – although plenty of kids may well not care how well they're doing.
Just Dance 3 is made for multiplayer sessions, and lets up to four people join in with the dances, each with their own Wii Remote. There's a few different modes to try – like the 'Simon Says' mode, where you need to follow the dance routine until a special prompt telling you to clap in time, stop moving or spin around appears. There's also a few songs with special 'Hold My Hand' choreographies, where up to eight players form a line linked by Wii Remotes and try to copy the dance moves as best they can.
Just Dance 3 - Nintendo Wii Review

Positives

  • Entertaining choreographies, with a healthy dose of cheese
  • Great in multiplayer
  • Awards and unlockables increase replay value

Negatives

  • Motion detection can be a bit wobbly at times
  • I was rather achy the day after a two hour stint on it...
  • Hard to put down...

Controls
Controls are pretty much non-existent - you just need to strap yourself into a Wii Remote, and make sure you keep a hold of it as you dance along. Menus involve simple pointing and pressing A.

Learning Curve
Just Dance 3 is the epitome of pick up and play - you just need to hold on to your Wii Remote and follow the on-screen prompts. Some of the dance moves are harder than others (as to be expected), and might take you a few goes to perfect it, and very occasionally the game will decide you actually missed a move even though you know you did it perfectly.
