The Legend of Zelda is reportedly being adapted into a live action series

Netflix is making a Zelda TV Series

Well excuuuuse me Princess... but this news is big enough that it's probably worth interrupting your daily routine for. While Link's latest Wii U game isn't out until later this year, a rather strong rumour has been going around the internet that Netflix are in the early stages of adapting one of Nintendo's most popular videogame series, 'The Legend of Zelda', into an on-demand television show - at least, that's what The Wall Street Journal are reporting.

While information is scarce on the supposed production, "a person familiar with the matter" has detailed that Netflix is working closely with Nintendo to bring a live action adaptation of Link's adventures to save the Princess Zelda to screens all around the globe.

And while there are no writers attached to the project, they went on to detail that the show would be like "Game of Thrones for a family audience". This all seems a little bit odd to us, considering that Game of Thrones is about as far removed from a Zelda game as Breaking Bad is (hey, at least they both feature swords - Ed), so whether there is any truth in this report remains to be seen. However Netflix has refused to comment on the matter - which suggests that the smoke may well be sign of a fire.

This isn't the first time a Nintendo IP has been adapted for screen. Link made his television debut in the animated television series 'Captain N' and 'The Legend of Zelda' back in 1989, a Super Mario Bros. feature length movie (the memories of which still haunt our dreams) was released in 1993, and a film based on the Metroid series was in the works for a number of years before becoming trapped in development hell.

Just how Netflix will be adapting a game starring a silent protagonist is unclear at this time. We just hope there will plenty of grass cutting and jar smashing scenes.

Which actors do you think would be best suited to play Link, Zelda & all the other LoZ characters? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.
