Star Wars: The Force Awakens Play Set revealed for Disney Infinity 3.0

Yet more Star Wars, this time to tie in with the upcoming film

Star Wars The Force Awakens Play Set revealed for Disney Infinity 30
13th October, 2015 By Sarah Morris

Unless you've been living under a particularly large rock on the distant planet of Dantooine, the odds are you've heard Mr. Lucas is off making another one of those Star Wars films. Just when you thought a galaxy far, far away was safe, it seems Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and co are in trouble once more, some thirty years or so after the original trilogy ended - although as they're probably all too old and doddery to be of any serious use to the rebel alliance (or whatever it's called this time round), they've brought in a load of younger whippersnappers to take the fight to the bad guys instead.

Of course, the gaming world can't repel a film of this magnitude, and so Disney today revealed the first official details of their tie-in game - or perhaps it's more accurate to say, tie-in expansion.

Star Wars play sets are a serious business, it seems...

Those of you that bought into Disney's take on the Skylanders Toys-to-Life phenomenon, Disney Infinity, may have noticed the third game's distinctly Star Wars-y bent. Launching with a Play Set adventure themed after Episodes I-III (ie. the 'less good' trilogy), and following it up with a rehash of the best trilogy (Episodes IV-VI), the reveal of a Play Set themed after the brand-spanking new Star Wars film was only a matter of time, really.Reprising key moments from the film, which hits cinemas across the UK on the 17th December, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Play Set sees players jetting off "to a galaxy far, far away alongside new heroes and old friends in search of a much-needed ally" - which is pretty much the most generic summary of a Star Wars plot ever. Included with the Play Set are two Star Wars character figures, of Finn, a soldier in search of danger and adventure (essentially a young Han Solo then) and Rey, the resourceful and capable female. Both are joined by Poe Dameron, a trusted Resistance pilot and Kylo Ren, a bad guy and enforcer of the First Order, who spends his time terrorising the galaxy - although both of these figures will be terrorising your bank balance too, as they'll be available separately, outside the main Play Set pack.

Much like with Disney Infinity 3.0's previous Play Sets (and unlike the precedent that was set in the first games), all your existing Star Wars figures will work in the new adventure - whether they're Luke and Leia from the Rise Against The Empire, Ahsoka and Anakin from Twilight of the Republic or an assortment of Star Wars Rebels characters. As far as we're aware, this switch-over works both ways, so you'll also be able to take your new figures of Finn, Rey, Poe and Kylo back into the other Play Sets, to take down the Darths.

In traditional Star Wars style, bad guy Kylo Ren is a bit of a goth.

It's all go with Disney Infinity at the moment - just last week we found ourselves getting excited over the brand new Marvel-themed Play Set in the works, and now the best Disney Infinity game yet is getting even bigger still, with another Star Wars adventure. Story-wise it's all a bit schtum at the moment, much like the plot of the upcoming film it draws it's inspiration from - but much like said film, it'll be hitting shops mid-December, on the 18th, a mere day after the film lands in the cinemas.
