If, like us, you've been pegging away at Professor Layton for the past few months, putting your brain through it's paces on some of the game's more feindish puzzles, you may have been wondering where your next slice of Layton and his apprentice may come from.

You may or may not know, that outside of the UK, Professor Layton is already a huge franchise - especially in Japan. With two trilogies of games either announced, or already released, Layton-mania is taking the Orient by storm - so much so, that the series has even spawned a feature film.

Produced by the man behind the extremely successful Pokemon films, and confirmed for a UK Blu-Ray and DVD release in September, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva (no, not the R&B girl group) is set after the events of the fourth game - which makes releasing it over here a bit of an odd choice, seeing as we haven't even got the third one yet.

The plot revolves around one of Layton's former students, an opera singer named Jenis Quatlane (who we presume is the eternal diva in question) who contacts the Professor when a number of strange things start happening at the theatre she's performing at - including the kidnapping of two girls. As is usually the case, it's up to the Professor and his apprentice to solve the mystery.

Although it may not be another game, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva will certainly help fill any Layton shaped hole in your life, until the third game comes out. And although we haven't heard anything official about that yet, we'd expect it around Christmas.
