Saints Row 3DS Cancelled

Tongue-in-cheek Gangsta 'em up won't be seeing a 3DS release after all

Here at Everybody Plays, we've always had a soft spot for Saints Row. A "gangsta" game with its tongue thoroughly in its cheek, Saints Row has always thrived on stupidity as a series, letting you do anything, from firing yourself through the windscreen of your car in an attempt to gain insurance money, to dressing up as a hotdog and "surfing" on the bonnet of a car. But despite its humourous take on the sandbox, go anywhere, do anything game, it was a series that had always evaded Nitnendo consoles.

Saints Row - a game with its tongue so firmly in its cheek, it could lick its own ear.

It came as quite a surprise, then, when Saints Row: Drive By was announced as being in development for the 3DS. Announced somewhat out of the blue, as a spin off from the main series (which is seeing a new instalment this year in the way of the amazingly pretentiously named Saints Row: The Third), things have been quiet on the Saints Row 3DS front for a while - and now, sadly, we know why.

Saints Row: Drive By has recently been cancelled by THQ. After vanishing from the release schedule, a THQ representative confirmed to Joystiq that "We are not developing Saints Row: Drive By" - which did nothing if not get to the point.

Those of us waiting for their next excuse to start talking in hip-hop slang and ending every sentence with "Yo" or "bruv" will have to wait until later this year, when Saints Row: The Third sees a release on the Xbox 360.
